The Club

Founder
Pinelands Athletic Club was founded by, Gifford H. Pentland-Smith (Penty), at a meeting of twenty-one residents of Pinelands at the school on Tuesday 19th August 1937. The club was only two years old when World War II was declared, which led to a suspension of club activities until Penty returned from North Africa and the Middle East in 1943.

Clubhouse
The clubhouse is situated on the lower oval sports field, near the Pinelands Police station. To reach the clubhouse turn off Forest Drive into Uitvlugt and take the service road parallel to Forest Drive towards the BP Garage. Approximately 150 metres on the right is the entrance to the lower oval and clubhouse.

Club Activities The club participates in Road Running, Cross Country and Track & Field activities. The following activities are available to members of the club: Time Trial, Club Runs, Coaching, Club Races and Social Activities.

On the third Saturday in January the club organises the Stannic Hohenort 15-kilometre road race. This race starts and finishes at the Alphen Farm Stall, Constantia next to the False Bay Rugby Club. The race starts at 6h30, with entries being taken from 05h00. The route is an undulating, tough run through the picturesque suburb of Constantia. The hardest part of the run is at about 12 Km and then it is an easy downhill to the end. Walkers are most welcome. Contact Michael Mortley for further information

The Six by Six Relay takes place on the first Saturday in June in the afternoon. The race is aimed at athletic clubs and is the oldest inter-club relay in the Western Cape. Teams compete in age category, with the men’s teams having six runners and women’s teams having four runners. A social race is also offered for teams of five people, which is open to individual and club teams. Entries are taken on Thursday and Friday evenings before the race.
