Welcome to UCT Athletics Club |
The University of Cape Town Athletic Club was founded in 1892 and has a
long and proud history, from victories in the Dalrymple Cup and the
Comrades Marathon (both men and women) to two sub-four minute milers.
Whilst UCT remains first and foremost an academic institution with a
proud scholastic tradition, it has, over the years produced many fine
athletes. The UCT Athletics Club is primarily run by its student
members, with the Chairperson required to be a student by its
constitution.
The Club is also one of the few in the modern era of athletics which
caters for all the disciplines which make up the sport of athletics —
Track and Field, Cross Country and Road Running. The Club has also been
home to some noteworthy race walkers. In addition the Club endeavours to
welcome both social and competitive runners.
The Club is ideally placed near the Newlands Forest and Devil’s Peak,
with many inspirational runs starting at its clubhouse on the UCT Middle
Campus. The Club uses a grass track at the Oval on the Middle Campus for
its track training needs.
The Club provides coaching for distances from 100m to the ultra
distances. We have training facilities for most field events, and try to
arrange external coaches to assist with technical training for these
events.
