The Two Oceans Marathon Association (TOMA) recently donated R150 000 to Western Province Athletics (WPA) to assist them with their development plan aimed at increasing and improving children’s athletics in the Western Cape.
According to WPA’s vice president Lester Cameron, who received the cheque on behalf of the organisation at a ceremony held recently, “We are extremely grateful for this generous contribution towards helping us achieve our goal of introducing children to athletics and providing them with opportunities to participate wherever possible, as well as furthering development within our affiliated clubs and the various communities around the Western Cape.”
Race director for the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon Rowyn James, added that their organisation was not just about putting on a world-class event but also about ensuring that something is given back to the communities within which they operate. “Our main purpose is to promote and host athletics events for the benefit of sport, health, charities and communities and this money will assist in developing road running and athletics around the Western Cape.”
