Longtom Marathon cancelled
The 2013 Longtom Ultra and Half Marathons have been officially cancelled due to financial constraints. Contracting of a major corporate title sponsor for the 2013 event has been postponed to the 2014 budgetary year. Therefor the 2013 event will once again be hosted without the financial assistance of a title sponsor.
Joubert never expected win
Tuesday, 19 February 2013 – 24 year-old Cornelia Joubert became South Africa’s youngest ever Marathon Champion after winning the title at the SA Marathon Championships in Oudtshoorn on 3 February 2013. The biggest surprise was that she never expected to win the first marathon that she ever competed in.
Women Marathon Title up for Grabs
Wednesday, 30 January 2013 – Around 50 female athletes will travel to Oudtshoorn this Sunday, 3 February, to vie for the coveted title of SA Marathon Champion. Defending Champion Charne Bosman, has withdrawn from the Championships in order to concentrate on the Two Oceans Marathon.
Kemboi wins Soweto Marathon 2012
Sunday, 4 November 2012 – Kenya’s Shadrack Kemboi won the men’s title at 20th edition of the Soweto Marathon in 2:16:28. The 26 year-old, along with compatriot Timothy Kibet, lead most of the race, but Kemboi broke away at the 33km mark.
