Southern Region Junior Team Announced
Athletics South Africa has announced a junior team of 33 athletes to compete at the CAA Southern Region Junior Championships to take place in Windhoek, Namibia on 28 and 19 April. The date of the Championships has been moved forward and will no longer take place on 4 and 5 May. [Read more...]

Palframan solidifies place
Justine Palframan solidified her position on the team to the World Junior Championships in Barcelona in June when she dominated the Junior women’s 400m final in Germiston at the Yellow Pages SA Youth, Junior and Schools Championships. Palframan crossed the line in 53.51sec, well inside the required 53.67sec. In the process she won the 400m title for the first time after finishing second in 2011. The 19 year old Palframan previously reached the qualifying time (53.67sec) in 53.59sec at the Provincial Championships on 9 March. Stephanie Wicksell (AGN) finished behing Palframan in 55.35sec followed by Mareike Wolhuter (WPA) in 55.99sec. [Read more...]
Semenya, van Zyl, Mulaudzi for Potch
Caster Semenya will run her first 800m race of the season at the second leg of the Yellow Pages series in Potchefstroom on Saturday 24 March.
The 800m World Championships silver medallist changed coaches in 2011 and feels that has made a positive change in her athletics already. Speaking after her victory in the 400m in Bellville (at the second Yellow Pages Interprovincial) on 3 March, Semenya said, “she (Maria Mutola) has not changed much in my training program, but is really working more on my race tactics and some technique work.” [Read more...]
Mzazi shines in Stellenbosch
20 March – Gladwin Mzazi from Gauteng North has become the 6th fastest man in South Africa in the men’s 5000m at the first Yellow Pages meeting of the series in Stellenbosch. This after Mzazi won in 13:24.50, just 4 seconds shy of the Olympic Qualifying A-standard. Only Shadrack Hoff (13:14.16), Sydney Maree (13:20.63), Alistair Cragg (13:22.07), Juan van Deventer (13:22.64) and Hendrick Ramaala (13:24.43) have run faster times. [Read more...]
