Rohan Kennedy and Dawid Visser of Team Velocity Sports Lab showed their colours on Saturday, 07 May 2011 when they completed Stage Two of the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance in a winning time of 03hours05minutes53seconds. Team Hi-Tec Infinity Girls continued their winning streak on the day, while Team Puma took gold in the mixed team category.
According to Kennedy Stage Two’s routes perfectly suited their style of running. “Today’s course was awesome and just the right distance for us. The last 700m beach stretch was a killer. I think the organisers were trying to teach us a lesson,” laughs Kennedy. “Dawid and I followed the exact same tactic as in 2010. We started out conservatively over Stage One, allowing us to study the competition. Today we worked off of each other’s strengths and managed to build a satisfying lead. The AfricanX Trailrun is an awesome event that can also be enjoyed by the general runner,” says Kennedy. Team Kelfords came in second, while Team Contego finished third.
Sarah Gray and Jeannie Bomford of Team Hi-Tec Infinity Girls were unstoppable on the day, crossing the finish line in a deserving time of 03hours33minutes44seconds. Gray is ecstatic with their lead. “The scenery today was absolutely beautiful. The ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun is really well organised and everybody is so friendly, Jeannie and I are having a great time. Our strategy for tomorrow is to take it easy and have fun,” says Gray. Team Road Runners came in second, while Team Dudley’s Girls finished third.
Leanne Juul and Andreas Krensel of Team Puma caused an upset in the Mixed Team Category, crossing the finish line in 03hours26minutes37seconds, five minutes ahead of Stage One leaders Team ProNutro Mixed. For Juul winning Stage Two was an awesome experience. “Choosing the correct partner to race with is critical in such a race. Andreas is fantastic, I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. Today’s route was great and we really appreciate the support on route. Our strategy for tomorrow is to have fun and give it our best,” says Juul. Team ProNutro Mixed came in second, while Team Pure Planet Racing presented by Fairbairn finished third.
Stage Two, the longest of the three stages, saw runners needing to complete a 40.7km trail that featured 1127m of climbing.

Following a cloverleaf format, runners finish in Kleinmond on each of the three days. Their accommodation, meals and entertainment remain in the same place for the duration of the race. The race village at the Kleinmond Day Camp is a hive of activity with entertainment throughout the day, which makes the event ideally suited as a family breakaway.
