Mothibi, Mabuza cruise to Platinum wins

Edward Mothibi

Edward Mothibi and Mpho Mabuza shook up the field at the 2014 FNB Platinum Trail Run presented by ISUZU at the ATKV Buffelspoort (North West Province) on Sunday, 25 May 2014.

Road runner Edward Mothibi claimed an unsuspected victory in the 24km FNB Platinum Trail Run presented by ISUZU crossing the finish line in an inspiring time of 01 hour 30minutes 55seconds.  According to Mothibi, he read about the race in the local newspaper and literally only entered that morning.

“The event was very challenging.  I am not a trail runner, I run half marathons.  Today I had to be alert at all times as I kept worrying about spraining my ankle.  I really enjoyed the route and the scenery was beautiful.  I definitely want to come back next year,” says Mothibi.  Lucky Miya came in second, while Piet Jacobs finished third.

Mpho Mabuza completed the women’s 24km FNB Platinum Trail Run presented by ISUZU in a lighting fast time of 01hours53minutes.  “The ladies were very competitive,” said a very pleased Mabuza.  “It was a challenging race, but I really enjoyed it.  I’m a road runner, so for me the course was really tough with lots of rocks and the hills were challenging, but I enjoyed all of it.  The atmosphere was fantastic”.  Poppy Mhlambo came in second, while Leilani Scheffer finished third.

In the men’s 12km FNB Platinum Trail Run presented by ISUZU Ruan Meintjies claimed victory in a time of 49minutes29seconds.  Ryan Mathaba came in second, while Sydney Kaomo finished third.  Samantha Harrington was the lady to beat with a winning time of 01hours06minutes35seconds.  Leanne Trollope  came in second, while Julie Stevens finished third.

Wilhelm Berrange took gold in the men’s 8km FNB Platinum Trail Run presented by ISUZU with a finishing time of 28minutes55seconds.  Juan-Pierre Van Der Merwe came in second, while Gustav Combrink finished third.  Penelope Taylor was the first lady on the podium with a finishing time of 37minutes42seconds.  Steffeny Visser came in second, while Jennette Visser finished third.
