Accomplished trail runner Nicholas Rupanga will be back in action at the 2013 Mountain Warrior Trail Run Festival taking place at Rustenberg Wine Estate (Outside Stellenbosch) on Saturday, 31 August 2013 and Sunday, 01 September 2013.
Rupanga took gold at the 2012 Mountain Warrior Challenge when he completed the 38km Jonkershoek SKY RUN (on the Saturday) and the 25km Simonsberg Challenge (on the Sunday) in an impressive combined time of 06hours44minutes04seconds. “The 2012 Mountain Warrior Challenge was spectacular,” says Rupanga. “It was so well organised that I literally enjoyed every minute. The fist day’s route was a bit challenging, featuring an all terrain course, with descents, ascents, single track, jeep track and serious technical sections. The second day’s course was a bit easier with single track and jeep track. Winning after two serious days of trail running was a great experience for me. Unfortunately I won’t be able to defend my title this year as I’ve been nursing a foot and back injury. Although I am doing better now, I’m not fit enough to run the entire event. I will, however, enter the 25km Simonsberg Challenge on the Sunday. I do encourage all trail runners to take part in the Mountain Warrior Trail Run Festival as the routes suit all running styles. The Jonkershoek Mountains are really beautiful, while the event is really well organised,” says Rupanga.

SPECIAL OFFER: Runners wishing to take part in both the long distances on Saturday and Sunday can enter the Mountain Warrior Challenge at a discounted rate of R550. The Mountain Warrior Challenge will feature the 38km Jonkershoek SKY RUN starting at 09h00 on Saturday, 31 August 2013 and the 25km Simonsberg Challenge starting at 08h00 on Sunday, 01 September 2013.
Entry fees include both a R45 Cape Nature Wilderness fee and a R45 MTO Forestry fee. Please note that WILDCARDS will not be accepted by Cape Nature for entry into these events.
