Stellenbosch based trail running enthusiasts Craig Burns and Danette Smith had the rest of the field running scared on Saturday, 22 February 2014 at the second annual New Balance Trail Run presented by ISUZU in Grabouw.
Burns claimed victory in the men’s 11km New Balance Trail Run presented by ISUZU in the fast paced time of 46minutes06seconds. According to Burns the New Balance Trail Run is a nice, fast race. “There was good competition out there today with three runners leading from the start. The route is fast, not too technical, with a big climb in the centre featuring a tough incline. It’s a super lekker race and I’ll definitely be back next year,” said Burns. Chad Gordon came in second, while Dawid Visser finished third.
Smith completed the women’s 11km New Balance Trail Run presented by ISUZU in a deserving time of 55minutes57seconds. “That was a great route. It featured a bit of everything, challenging sections, technical parts and stunning views. The weather was perfect and there was a nice vibe. A great day out on the trails,” said Smith. Chantel Nienaber came in second, while Caitlin Leslie finished third.
Michael Gombart took the top spot on the podium in the men’s 5km New Balance Trail Run presented by ISUZU in a time of 28minutes35seconds. Wade Bromfield came in second, while Jacques Wattel finished third.
Mareleen Odendaal ran to victory in the women’s 5km New Balance Trail Run presented by ISUZU in a time of 37minutes09seconds. Rina Parker came in second, while Lizanne Loubser finished third.

The New Balance Trail Run presented by ISUZU incorporates the trail run routes of the Totalsports XTERRA Grabouw presented by REHIDRAT SPORT.
