ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun initiates partnerships

Although only in its third year, the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance has become renowned for its ability to encourage the teaming up of remarkable athletes from all spheres of life. One of the most noteworthy teams to look out for the weekend of 06 – 08 May 2011 will be that of multisport athlete Raoul de Jongh and well known Western Cape trail runner Katya Soggot.

According to De Jongh, he does not take the partnership lightly. “As Katya’s partner I have a number of responsibilities towards her. The most important responsibility is to ensure that open communication is kept at all times in order to maintain the fastest possible pace with the three day outlook at heart. I’ve been told that the AfricanX Trailrun is tough, rough and fun with the scenery far outweighing the pain. The best aspect of a team event is that you have someone to motivate you when you are tired. I think this is going to be a fun learning experience for both Katya and I,” says De Jongh.

Soggot is looking forward to an absorbing and rewarding race. “I heard about the AfricanX Trailrun from fellow trail runners, all of whom said that it was a beautiful three day stage race. I was searching for something different and challenging. As luck would have it I received a mail from Raoul asking if I’d like to team up with him for the AfricanX Trailrun, serendipity at its best. This will be the first time that we compete together. My strengths lie on the single track and climbs, while Raoul’s ability, experience and enthusiasm are sure to make him a valuable partner,” says Soggot.

Mixed Teams to watch out for: De Jongh and Soggot will face tough competition from reigning champions Mark Collins and Michelle Lombardi. Another team to keep a watchful eye over will be that of husband and wife duo Iain and Su Don-Wauchope.
