Umhlanga Tourism Liberty Trail Run

Umhlanga Tourism Liberty Trail Run

Umhlanga Tourism Liberty Trail Run

Hundreds of enthusiastic energetic early risers will take to the trails for the Umhlanga Tourism Liberty Trail Run / Walk on Sunday 16 December.

The annual run has two distances, the shorter 12km, a perfect distance for walkers and those that enjoy a gentle easy run or the longer 18km trail challenges the more hard-core adventure runners. The trails will offer a variety of terrain and landscapes, athletes will pace through the neighbouring residential area, turning into sugar cane fields, cross a shallow flowing river, weave through the bush and churn through the final gruelling stretch on the soft beach sand.

The defending champions Eric Ngubane and Mandy Matthews will be back in the hope of retaining their crowns with the goal of making it three wins out of three in the summer trail run.

The routes will be similar to the previous summer runs but the Race Director, Buzz Bolton, has tweaked the route slightly to make it more interesting and a bit more challenging. “I don’t think the guys will be disappointed with this year’s race and route. We are dishing up a number of scenic sections which will encourage participants to push on and to see what is on the horizon, or around the corner. The race is filled with spectacular views which will reward the runners.”

Andre Viljoen, Regional Head of Agency and Entrepreneurs of KZN and Eastern Cape for Liberty expressed, “We are delighted to be a part of this event. The brand Liberty is all about owning your life, being healthy, and taking care of yourself. We think this is a perfect marriage between ourselves and the trail run, reiterating what we stand for. I personally have been training hard so that I can tackle the 12km walk, so am definitely looking forward to the event.”

An early start to Sunday morning over the long weekend in December will be a fitness fanatics dream with the tri-annual Umhlanga trail run on the 16 December starting at Umhlanga Sands Resort.

The race starts at 06:00am on the beach side of Umhlanga Sands Resort. Registration will take place from 05h00 onwards. A sporty trail cap will be handed out at registration so don’t bother to bring one of your own

The trail run forms part of the annual Umhlanga Summer Carnival. For more info on the event visit www.umhlangatourism.co.za. or Makulu Events on 031-3121281.
