Reigning women’s champion Carla Van Huyssteen has her heart set on a hat trick win at the TOTALSPORTS XTERRA Buffelspoort presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT which will take place at the picturesque Buffelspoort Dam (North West Province) on Saturday, 26 January 2013.
According to Van Huyssteen, the Totalsports XTERRA Buffelspoort routes are really tough. “The heat experienced on the day together with the altitude and the loose rocky climbs make the bike discipline very technical. Having to overcome various obstacles on the run, you are left with very little rhythm, but that is what makes XTERRA unique. It’s not only the super fast competitors that stand a chance to win, as there is a technical element that can either make or break you. My favourite part of XTERRA Buffelspoort is climbing the damn wall, no pun intended”, laughs Van Huyssteen.
The new XTERRA SA kid on the block is Bradley Weiss. Rated by top XTERRA athlete, Dan Hugo as the up and coming XTERRA warrior to look out for, Weiss will make his XTERRA Buffelspoort debut on Saturday. “I’ve competed at XTERRA Grabouw three times, once in the XTERRA Lite and twice in the XTERRA Full. I have also competed in three international XTERRA events. The first was in Pelham, Alabama USA where I competed in the ITU Cross Triathlon U23 Elite World Championships which I won in May 2012. I then followed the XTERRA US Tour competing in two more XTERRA events, one in Richmond Virginia and one in Beaver Creek, Colorado. I have competed in many international events, but they do not come close to XTERRA SA events. The phenomenal organisation and professionalism with which these events are run is second to none. For as long as I continue competing at XTERRA events, I will be sure never to miss our local Totalsports XTERRA races”, says Weiss.
Other top XTERRA Warriors to look out for on the day will include Conrad Stoltz, Dan Hugo and Stuart Marais.
