Obrien for IMPI Hartbeespoort

Anita Obrien

Anita Obrien

Top South African trail runner Anita Obrien (Kameeldrift West, North West Province) will return to Van Gaalens Cheese Farm, Hartbeespoort on Saturday, 28 September 2013 to defend her title at the action packed New Balance IMPI Elite Race.

“Trying something new every now and then makes your life so much more exciting,” says Obrien.  “Obstacle racing is very challenging, but it’s also a lot of fun.  I only realized the next day how intense it really was when every muscle in my body was aching.  For me the toughest part was overcoming the obstacles towards the end, not because they are more difficult, but because you’re body is so exhausted.  The fun part of obstacle racing is that before you can get bored of running, you are faced with a new exciting obstacle.  I was super surprised to take gold on the day and am now totally hooked on obstacle racing.  I will definitely try for gold again, but my main aim is to improve my time and have fun.  I think everyone should at least try it once, but be warned, it’s very addictive”.
