Trailrun 2013 Stage announced

AfricanX Stage Two 2013

AfricanX Stage Two 2013

The organisers of the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance, taking place the weekend of 19 – 21 April 2013, are very excited to announce the route for Stage Two of this much loved event.

According to Hendrico Burger, Route Designer, this will be the first time in the history of the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun that a stage features so much single trails.  “Stage Two will be a stage for real runners.  In addition to the copious amount of single trails, runners will also need to contend with tough terrain that features a lot of loose surfaces, ups and downs and very little level running.  The route won’t, however, be too technical for fit runners,” says Burger.

Traditionally Stage Two of the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun was known as the “Marathon Day”, but runners are warned not to be fooled by the new shorter distance, as it will be the most challenging stage of the event.  Spectacular scenery and varied trails will ensure a tough yet memorable day on the trails.  Starting on the dam wall at Ongegund Dam, the route will climb gradually over the first 3.5km before runners meet the first single track of the day.  Once out of the single track, a jeep track along the railway line will lead runners up to the first water-point at Da Capo. The views from the water point are spectacular.  After leaving the water-point, the biggest climb of the event begins.  Following a fairly steep jeep track, the route turns onto an impressive 6km stretch of single track below ‘Hans se Kop’, known as “Magic Mountain’.  This is where the technical, rocky terrain begins.  Remember to take in the breathtaking scenery, look out across False Bay to your right; across to the Helderberg Mountains behind you and the Hottentots Holland mountains to the left and in front of you.  After some undulations runners will meet the quad burning climb over the mountain and once at the top they will be greeted by the views of the beautiful Elgin Grabouw Valley.  Expect some awesome downhill and flowing single track linked by jeep track. An enjoyable 16km on the Grabouw trails will lead runners back to the unique Finish Line at the Oude Molen Distillery.

Teamwork forms an essential part of the ProNutro AfricanX Trailrun presented by New Balance.
