I&#8217;m sure?<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_625\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.time-to-run.co.za\/ultimatecomrades\/files\/2013\/02\/marathon-espresso1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-625\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-625\" alt=\"Running indulgence\" src=\"http:\/\/www.time-to-run.co.za\/ultimatecomrades\/files\/2013\/02\/marathon-espresso1-300x211.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.time-to-run.co.za\/ultimatecomrades\/files\/2013\/02\/marathon-espresso1-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.time-to-run.co.za\/ultimatecomrades\/files\/2013\/02\/marathon-espresso1.jpg 760w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-625\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Goal for the first 31 km<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I ran Redhill Marathon a month ago, rested week then put in two 28km weekend runs. \u00a0Because my wife didn&#8217;t want to risk a marathon so soon after recovering from an illness, I ran this marathon as a R20 substitution.<\/p>\n<p>My legs were a little tired and my easy, ambling pace was actually more like a slow recovery pace. \u00a0So I had to push to keep at a nearly respectable 6:10 or so a km.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px;line-height: 19px\">Maybe putting the fire of the run into my legs, adding a double espresso at 31 km when they were just hot enough, then jumping in the pool at the end, made them tougher. Metal in the muscle forged into endurance road-running shape. I hope.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The way I feel today &#8211; a bit used in the legs and feet but able to do the stairs easily &#8211; says that I didn&#8217;t do too much. And I was happy not to run this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Higher order\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #888888\">Marathon Verdict:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I still like the marathon distance. It&#8217;s far enough for the achievement to glow. Far enough to unclog all my feeling channels. Hard enough to quench my thirst for living, \u00a0at least for a day or two.
