Camperdown, KZN, early enough on the down Comrades run, in the tough zone of the Up, is named after the farm on which it is built; which was named after one of the Camperdowns in Scotland; which were named for a victory of the British Royal Navy\u00a0under Admiral Robert Duncan, of Dundee, Scotland,\u00a0over the Dutch in the sea off Camperduin, Netherlands.<\/p>\n

All of this I got to know because I ran\u00a0the beach and dunes of Camperduin<\/span>\u00a0invited my friend Hans Koeleman, the Netherlands Int<\/span>ernational Ambassador of the Comrades Marathon.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ours is \u00a0a friendship born over seas of mutual affection for the Co<\/span>mrades Marathon. <\/span><\/p>\n

That’s what this ultimate event also went and\u00a0<\/span>did.<\/p>\n
