Tuesday, 23 April 2013 – Over the past weekend, Sibusiso Nzima finished sixth at his first marathon ever while Irvette van Zyl (formally Van Blerk) became the fifth fastest female marathon athlete in South African history after finishing 10th at the London Marathon.
Semenya maintains Olympic tradition
Monday, 13 August 2012 – Caster Semenya continued the tradition of athletics being the one sport to win a medal at each of the Olympic Games since re-admission, when she finished second in the women’s 800m on Saturday. No other sporting code in South Africa has been able to achieve this milestone.

Semenya Qualifies for London
20 April – Caster Semenya became the fifth track and field athlete to qualify for the Olympic Games after dipping under the 2 minute required in the women’s 800m at Yellow Pages III in Pretoria.
Viljoen sets Olympic Standard
On Saturday 17 February at the Gauteng North Provincial Championships Oscar Pistorius became the first South African track and field athlete to reach the Olympic Qualifying standard in the men’s 400m. However, on the same day in another province Sunette Viljoen made her mark.
