Kalmer wins Durban Ladies Race

Kalmer takes Durban 2011 Title

Kalmer takes Durban 2011 Title

Rene Kalmer proved to be in top form at the Totalsports Ladies Race on Sunday, 31 July 2011 crossing the finish line at Kingspark Athletic Stadium, Durban in a winning time of 33minutes 28seconds.

“Today’s race was awesome,” said Kalmer, who represents the Nedbank Running Club.  “The start of the race was great fun as it was very relaxed with music playing and an all round nice vibe experienced amongst the runners.  Although the route was flat and fast, the windy conditions in Durban made the first 2kms and last 3kms really tough.  I enjoyed running through the Nedbank Green Mile section of the route, especially coming back on the second half as the motivational posters carried me through to the end.  I’ll definitely be back next year”.  Tanith Maxwell claimed second place, while Christine Kalmer finished third.

Kalmer is using the Totalsports Ladies Race Durban and Stellenbosch (09 August 2011) as a test to see whether her marathon training is up to schedule for the World Championship in Daegu, South Korea from 27 August until 04 September.  This will be the first time in a decade that a ladies team will be representing South Africa in the marathon.

According to Michael Meyer of Stillwater Sport & Entertainment, the Totalsports Ladies Race’s Durban debut was a huge success.  “Witnessing over three thousand ladies take to the streets in support of National Women’s Day truly was a great experience.  We are especially thrilled to have Nedbank on board at this year’s celebrations.  The Nedbank Green Mile definitely added extra excitement to today’s festivities”, said Meyer.

The Totalsports Ladies Race made its debut in Durban on Sunday, 31 July 2011.  Participants could choose between a 5km and 10km run/walk.

It is with great excitement that the Totalsports Ladies Race welcomes the Nedbank Green Mile to its 2011 Women’s Day celebration.  Spanning over a section of the Totalsports Ladies Race route, the Nedbank Green Mile saw Durban runners and walkers receive en route support from the likes of musicians, cheerleaders, dancers and more.  From here the Nedbank Green Mile will move to Stellenbosch and Johannesburg to continue its support of the Totalsports Ladies Race on Tuesday, 09 August 2011.
