Stephen Muzhingi - Comrades Marathon

Stephen Muzhingi - Comrades Marathon

Durban – A very ‘happy’ Stephen Muzhingi has bagged his third straight Comrades Marathon in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday morning.

The Zimbabwean has now run six comrades and drew from a wealth of experience to win the ultra marathon yet again. He ran the 87-km race in 5:32.45.
South Africans Fanie Matshipa and Claude Moshiywa took second and third place respectively. The top 10 were made up of seven South African runners.

Muzhingi broke away from Matshipa, with whom he shared the lead for around 20kms, with 14km remaining to the finish line.

The Zimbabwean athlete admitted to struggling over Polly Shortts, the last of the race’s five big hills.

Muzhingi said he was feeling pain and stiff legs during the Polly Shortts stint but recovered quickly to stay on course for the end of the race.
