Top 8 clubs to battle

Introduced for the first time this year as a competition between the top 8 Track and Field Clubs in South Africa, the Yellow Pages Interclub competition is set to take place at the ABSA Tuks Stadium in Pretoria on Thursday 5 April.

Clubs competing on Thursday will be the University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg, University of North West, University of the Free State, Stellenbosch University, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Bellville and Tygerberg Northlink.

Teams will be made up of 20 athletes, 10 male and 10 female, all competing in one chosen event.  Events are the 100m, 400m, 800m, 3000m, 100m/110m hurdles, 400m hurdles and field events Shot Put, Javelin throw, Long jump and high jump. Athletes will collect point for their final finishing positions with the winner collecting 9 points and the 8th place finisher getting only 1 point.

To add to the excitement a total of R260 000 has been availed for the top 5 finishing clubs. See the prize money below:

Position 1: R100 000

Position 2: R75 000

Position 3: R50 000

Position 4: R25 000

Position 5: R10 000

Some of the familiar faces to compete include Thuso Mpuang (100m),  LJ van Zyl (400m hurdles), Elroy Gelant (3000m), Luvo Manyonga (long jump) while Wenda Theron in the 400m hurdles and Sunette Viljoen (javelin) are amongst the women in the line-up.

The first event on the program will start at 18:15 with the last event taking place at 20:15. Tickets can be purchased online from itickets.co.za, via telephone on 086 1000 291 or at the gate. Prices for tickets are R25 for adults and R15 for children.
