The first leg of the prestigious Yellow Pages Interprovincial Series gets underway on 25 February 2012 at the Germiston Stadium in the City of Ekurhuleni with teams from all over South Africa competing for the prize money of R100 000.
The series consist of two meetings (Germiston, 25 February and Bellville, 3 March) where provinces as teams will be competing against each other. The teams earn points based on their performances and the team with the highest number of points at the end of the two meetings wins the R100 000.
Prize money made available:
1st place: R100 000
2nd place: R 75 000
3rd place: R 50 000
4th place: R25 000
5th place: R10 000
The teams for the 2012 competition are Central Gauteng, Gauteng North, Mpumalanga, Western Province, Boland, Free State, Eastern Province, KwaZulu-Natal, Central North West and North West North.
In 2011 Gauteng North’s were crowned overall winners, but had to put in a concerted effort in the second and final leg of the competition to win. Central North West held the lead after the first meeting (23 885 points), but were pushed down into second place by Gauteng North who scored a total of 24 902 points in the second meeting to add to the 23 549 of the first meeting. Western Province finished 3rd.

A team will consist of 20 athletes (10 men and 10 women) and the competition will be contested over the following events: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m and the 4x100m relays. The hurdles events to be contested are 100m H/110m H, 400m H and 3000m SC.
