Pistorius runs Olympic Qualifying time

Double amputee Oscar Pistorius ran under the Olympic Qualifying time of 45.30sec at the Gauteng North Provincial Championships in Pretoria on Saturday, 17 March. Pistorius competed in the men’s 400m and was timed at 45.20sec.

Gauteng North wins Interprovincial series

Gauteng North’s Gladwin Mzazi and Stephen Makoka dominated the men’s 5000 meters in extremely windy conditions at the final Yellow Pages Interprovincial Meeting in Bellville on 3 March and with this also helped the team win the Yellow Pages Interprovincial series for the second year in a row.

North vs South rivalry continues

Gauteng North are currently leading the points standing after the first Yellow Pages Interprovincial Meeting in Germiston on Saturday 25 February. With the second and final leg in Bellville on 3 March, Athletics Gauteng North will be looking to defend their title from 2011 and to pocket the R100 000 going to the winning province.

Gauteng North excel at Youth Champs

  Team South Africa brought home 5 medals from the IAAF World Youth Championships that took place in Lille, France from 6-10 July.  Surprisingly, it is the boys from Gauteng North that performed well as 4 of the 5 medal winners came from this province.
