Lebo Phalula wins Johannesburg Ladies Race
The streets of Johannesburg and Stellenbosch came alive with excitement on Thursday, 09 August 2012 when over 11 700 runners and walkers (6800 in Johannesburg and 4900 in Stellenbosch) showed solidarity in celebration of National Woman’s Day by taking part in the Totalsports Ladies Races held annually at Rooseveldt High School, Emmerentia and Coetzenburg Stadium, Stellenbosch.
Lebo Phalula proved to be unstoppable in Johannesburg completing the 10km route in an impressive time of 35mins45secs, securing herself the top spot on the podium. According to Phalula the Totalsports Ladies Race is her favourite race. “This is the second time that I took part in the Totalsports Ladies Race. I competed for the first time in 2011 and also managed to win. This is such a nice race. It’s great to be able to race only against ladies. I’ll definitely be back next year, hopefully for my third victory,” says Phalula. Noeleen Conrad came in 2nd, while Cornelia Joubert finished 3rd.
Idols runner up L’loyd Cele and Female pop sensation, Shelley Gordon had the crowds on their feet in Johannesburg and Stellenbosch respectively, serenading ladies once they’d crossed the finish line.
Runners/walkers could choose between a fun 5km run/walk and a 10km run/walk.

Early Totalsports Ladies Race entries received an official race T-shirt, while medals were awarded to all finishers. Moms with prams were encouraged to be part of the action on the day, while husbands, family and friends were encouraged to join in on the fun and show support on route.
All entrants had the opportunity to stock up on energy before the race at the much loved Bokomo Breakfast Zone.
The PinkDrive was the charity of the 2012 Totalsports Ladies Race. For every in-store entry received Totalsports donated R2.00 to PinkDrive.
