Monday, 28 January 2013 – Trial winners Elroy Gelant and Lebo Phalula have both been included in a 27 member team to represent South Africa at the CAA Southern Region Cross Country Championships taking place in Maseru on 2 March 2013.
Gelant celebrates another Cross Country victory
Saturday, 26 January 2013 – SA Cross Country champion Elroy Gelant, won the 12km men’s trials at the Boksburg stadium after delivering a strong performance against a record number of athletes in the field.
Mixed fortunes for SA athletes
It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for South African athletes looking to qualify for the London Olympics, as two A-Qualifiers were run and two National Records were threatened.
Gelant wins SA 10km title
19 May – Elroy Gelant (CNW) won the men’s title at the SA 10km Championships ahead of defending champion Lucky Mohale (CGA) in cold conditions at the Diskobolos Defence Force Sport Grounds in Kimberley. Gelant clocked 28:36, improving his 6th place finish time of 2011.
Gelant breaks SA record at World Indoors
Elroy Gelant broke the SA Indoor Record in the men’s 3000m at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey on 9-11 March. Gelant finished 12th in the final but broke Juan van Deventer’s SA Indoor record of 7:49.91 (Moskva, 7 February 2010) when he crossed the line in 7:48.64.
Gelant spearheads SA Team
SA Cross Country Trials winner Elroy Gelant will spearhead the 24 member team to represent South Africa at the second CAA Africa Cross Country Championships at Keurboom Park, Cape Town on Sunday 18 March.
ASA Announces World Indoor Team
The 8th edition of the World Indoor Championships will be taking place in Istanbul, Turkey from 9-11 March 2012, with South Africa sending a team of four to the championships, Elroy Gelant (3000m), Khotso Mokoena (Long Jump) , Lehann Fourie (60mh)and Burger Lamprechts (Shot Put) have been selected for the Indoor Championships.
