Positive test for Comrades Winner

Comrades Marathon Association confirmed that 2012 Comrades Marathon winner, Ludwick Mamabolo, has  tested positive for banned substances.

Personal best for De Swardt in Rhede

Friday, 8 June 2012 – Jacques de Swardt clocked a new personal best of 46.06sec in the men’s 400m in Rhede, Germany on 7 June, finishing second.  His previous best (46.08sec) was set up in Germiston on 10 April 2010.

Cronje chasing second A-qualifier

6 June – South African 1500m Champion, Johan Cronje, could join the list of South African track and field athletes that have already qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games, when he competes in his speciality event at the Meeting de Nantes in France on 6 June.

Mamabolo claims Comrades

After 6 years of foreign domination of the Comrades Marathon, Ludwick Mamabolo once again carried the flag for South Africa as he crossed the line in 5:31.03.

Mixed fortunes for SA athletes

It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for South African athletes looking to qualify for the London Olympics, as two A-Qualifiers were run and two National Records were threatened.

Team to Barcelona World Juniors

22 May – A final team of 31 athletes have been announced to represent South Africa at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain from 10-15 July 2012.  The team consist of 14 male and 17 female athletes.

Gelant wins SA 10km title

19 May – Elroy Gelant (CNW) won the men’s title at the SA 10km Championships ahead of defending champion Lucky Mohale (CGA) in cold conditions at the Diskobolos Defence Force Sport Grounds in Kimberley.  Gelant clocked 28:36, improving his 6th place finish time of 2011.

Lucky Mohale seeks SA Record

Lucky Mohale has two objectives come Saturday 19 May. He wants to defend his national 10km title and has his eyes set on becoming the third South African to dip under 28 minutes on the road.

Mundell sets SA Walk Record

Marc Mundell not only qualified for the Olympic Games in the 50km at the World Race Walking Cup in Saransk, Russia on Sunday, 13 May, but also improved his own South African record, crossing the line in 3:57:57.

More qualifiers at SA Open

5 May 2012 – Wenda Theron not only reached the Olympic Qualifying A-standard again in the final of the in the women’s 400m hurdles, but also improved the time she clocked in yesterday’s first round at the SA Open Championships.
