Included in the line-up is the South African Olympic Marathon team comprising of the darling of SPAR races around the country, Rene Kalmer who has won more SPAR runs than any other runner in the history of the race. Team mate, Irvette Van Zyl has also graced the podium on several occasions. Adding some local flavour, Kloof’s Tanith Maxwell concludes the trio who represented the country in London last year.

Upping the tempo of the race, leading Zimbabwean runner Rutendo Nyahora who has won the Cape Town and Port Elizabeth races is aiming to win all five races. Mapaseka Makhanya, who is leading the SPAR Grand Prix, will be battling it out for top honours in the Durban race. Challenging them through the 10km are Jenna Challenor, Christine Kalmer, Poppy Mlambo, and Zintle Ziniwe Nontle.

A fast time is expected in this year’s race as the ladies surge along the brand new SPAR route, a dazzling scenic route around the Sahara and Suncoast precinct. The winter weather is predicted to be perfect for the runners.

There will be two starts for this year’s race with half an hour separating the start times. The start is alongside the Durban Ice Rink with the field heading off towards Argyle Road and turning up to the beach, at every turn the views will be spectacular.

Tomorrow (Saturday) is the final day for manual registration at the SPAR Women’s Food and Lifestyle Expo at Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World.
