6 medals at All Africa so far

South Africa already won 6 medals in athletics at the All Africa Games taking place in Maputo from 11-17 September 2011.  One gold in the women’s javelin throw, 3 silver in the men’s discus throw, shot put and women’s javelin throw and 2 bronze medals in the men’s discus throw and women’s javelin throw.

Gerhard de Beer shines

Gerhard de Beer, as well as the 4x100m men’s relay team broke South African records at the Commonwealth Youth Games over the weekend.  This prestigious event took place from 7 – 13 September at the Isle of Man, where some of the best youth athletes competed and showed their talent.

Semenya Silver wraps up success

She saved the best for last. After an up and down season, Caster Semenya came oh so close to successfully defending her title. Only the speed of the Russian Champion, Mariya Savinova prevented her from becoming the first athlete to successfully defend her title since Maria Mutola did it in 2003.
