Team for IAAF World Race Walking Cup
Six athletes have been selected to represent South Africa at the World Race Walking Cup in Saransk, Russia from 12-13 May in the 20km and the 50km race walk. Both these events are Olympic events and any athlete reaching the Qualifying standard once will qualify for the Olympic Games. [Read more...]
Van Blerk qualifies in London
When Irvette van Blerk crossed the line in 2:33.41 at the London Marathon on Sunday 22 April, 2012, she not only qualified for the Olympic Games, but also ensured that South Africa will be sending a three strong team in both the men’s and women’s races. The Yellow Pages Series III meeting at Tukkkies on Friday 20 April sees two former World Champions line up in search of an Olympic berth. After successfully defending her 800m title at the Yellow Pages SA Senior Track and Field Championships in Port Elizabeth on 14 April, Caster Semenya can now turn her attention to running her second Olympic A Qualifyer in Pretoria on 20 April at the Yellow Pages Series III meeting. Mokoka runs 10000m Qualifier
Steven Mokoka (AGN) made the headlines on day 1 of the Yellow Pages SA Senior Track and Field Championships by virtually running the third fastest time ever in the 10 000m, solo. Mokoka and team mate Glawdin Mzazi broke away from the field early on in the race, chasing the 27:45.00 required as an Olympic A-Qualifiying time. By halfway though, Mzazi had started to flag and Mokoka was left to his own devises to attempt the qulaifier. Churning out laps of 66 and 67sec the 27 year-old also started to struggle at around the 7000-8000m mark, but was able to pick up the pace in th final 2km. “The wind was hard in the home-straight, so I used it in the backstraight to ‘float’ and worked harder on the home-straight.” [Read more...]
Van Zyl, Moolman continue Javelin Rivalry
World Javelin Youth Champion, Reinhard van Zyl missed much of the season due to an elbow injury. During his absence, rival Morne Moolman won the South Africa Junior Title. The rivalry though will be renewed in Port Elizabeth on Friday 13 April. Morne Moolman easily won the SA Junior title in Germiston in the absence of van Zyl. [Read more...]

Southern Region Junior Team Announced
Athletics South Africa has announced a junior team of 33 athletes to compete at the CAA Southern Region Junior Championships to take place in Windhoek, Namibia on 28 and 19 April. The date of the Championships has been moved forward and will no longer take place on 4 and 5 May. [Read more...]
